Join fellow consumers, family members, providers and advocates to learn about current mental health policy and budget issues and to educate our Kansas Legislators. The most important part of your day will be meeting with your representative and senator.
All participants in Advocacy Day should schedule appointments ahead of time in order to meet with their legislators while in Topeka. You will receive more information after registering.
SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES
Note: KMHC has scheduled activities to make your day at the Capitol memorable and rewarding. Please prioritize meeting with your legislators over these activities.
8:30 a.m. - Noon Registration - State Capitol Visitors Center
8:30 a.m. - Informational Briefings - will be repeated every 20 - 30 minutes - State Capitol -Visitors Center Auditorium
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Exhibits - State Capitol, First Floor Rotunda
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Mental Health Advocacy Rally - State Capitol, First Floor Rotunda
11:00 a.m. - Session of the Kansas House of Representatives -group will watch the House session from the gallery.
Noon - 1:00 p.m. Lunch for KMHC District Advocates* and Legislators (This Event is By Invitation Only) - State Capitol, First Floor North Wing
2:30 p.m. - Session of the Kansas Senate -group will watch the Senate session from the gallery.
Ongoing Activities for all participants:
Legislative appointments - meeting with your legislators, whether it is in their office or in the hallway is the most important part of the day.
Legislative Committees - choose from among multiple committee meetings to view legislative workings up close.
Please schedule your appointments with legislators before you come to Topeka - assistance is available through your registration.

NOTE: Members of the public must enter the Capitol at the north entrance and pass through security screening. Drop-off is allowed at the north entrance. Parking is difficult downtown, so allow plenty of time.
